Mahnah Angela Torenbeek is from the Wagalgai people and is based on Mua Island / St Pauls in the Torres Strait. She is a major contributing artist to the GhostNets intitiative. The collaboration produces and exhibits artworks produced as part of the innovative GhostNets Australia program. This initiative, now in its ninth year, is a coordinated effort by the Indigenous communities of coastal Northern Australia to retrieve ghost nets and other debris from the sea. Recovered ghost nets are put to a variety of uses, and many nets have been utilised by artists, particularly in collaborative projects.
