The Words. Initially as I was doing research about Aboriginal issues for another project I kept coming across all these words that ended in ation. It seemed to fit so well when I began thinking about the Federation of Australia and what have Aboriginal people got to celebrate when (as far as I am concerned) it equates the deliberate destruction, separation and denial of the Aboriginal experience to the building of this Nation. I wanted to finally end on the words Explanation as many issues relating to the policy, Acts and attitudes of the past and today need to be addressed, revealed and explained so that people in Australia will understand what Aboriginal people are on about and why they may be in the situation they are in today. The ation of the words are italicised to show their connections and relevance to the Nation. Together with the colours of the present Australia flag, the red, white and blue it gives my view as an Aboriginal person the TRUE story of what Aboriginal people had to (and continue to in many ways) endure and experience in order for Australia to become the Nation it is today.

Until Australia understands, recognises and acknowledges our experiences we will never become a TRUE Nation. Copyright: Tina Baum 1999.
