Artist Biography |
Archie Moore was born in Toowoomba, Queensland in the year of 1970 and was razed/raised in the small Western Queensland town of Tara. The experience of racism in the predominantly white environment is reflected in his work, particularly the language of discrimination. His work deals with racism and identity through language sometimes referenced from the institutional setting. After completing TAFE courses in Art & Design he enrolled at QUT and completed a BA in Visual Arts in mid-1998. In 2001 he travelled to Prague on The Millennial Anne & Gordon Samstag International Visual Arts Scholarship and studied at Akademie Výtvarných Umění v Praze (Academy Of Fine Arts Prague). Since his return he has been busy with numerous group and solo shows, including one of the opening exhibitions at the Museum of Brisbane. What is under scrutiny at the moment is language structures and the process of reading. Whilst his main area of interest is in text-based visual art he is also involved in projection art, sound art, drawing, mentoring and has worked in various short films. |
