Artist Biography
Artist work
Maia was born in the island of Mindanao, Philippines and came to live in Australia in her early teens.

Maia studied graphic arts for a year then moved on to complete a Creative Arts degree at Griffith University, Gold Coast with majors in Contemporary Arts and Writing. She has also completed an Honours degree and wrote, produced, and directed a short film, Tracing the Shadow, as her final creative product. This short film explores the idea and image of the shadow as a metaphor for people who live in-between cultures. Tracing the Shadow was one of the finalists selected at the 3rd Sydney-Asia Pacific Film Festival 2002.

Maia is currently devoting her time writing and developing a number of art/film projects, which mainly explore contemporary life and cross-cultural issues.
