Artist Statement Artist work
"My carvings to me are a merge of Maori carving and graffiti art. My lettering has traditionally been interlocking or joining up so there is no beginning and no end and has an organic feel to it like its growing or something that has it's own life force. I read an article on a master carver in New Zealand and he said the carving is nothing without the "korero"(language, words) I know I'm taking it out of context when I apply that to my art I think that Maori people would understand that more than non Maori. I am carving a language, a language understood by the youth but alien to older people unless they are the parents of graffiti artists. I wish the government would support artists more not just the one's with their phd that can write grant applications but all artists that live this life fulltime"
